I pray all is well.
This email is intended to clarify any misunderstandings as it relates to Dress Down Day(DDD) and Dress Up Day(DUD) Baba Skief(John) created DDD, as a fund raiser for the school. The initial Nia(Purpose) was to use the monies to provide resource for the school (i.e 'giving back to the children').
Somewhere along the line the intent shifted and most, if not all, of the monies was leaving the building, without the school/children benefiting at all. Even though all of the initiatives are great and we should be supporting them, there is always a cost associated.
This year, because of the all of the external business swirling around the school, the Administrative Team felt that it was best to keep an accurate account of all monies collected and use a percentage of whatever is collected to support the original vision of our founder. (One of the first projects is to refurbish all 15 lunch tables....$10, 500.00).
I have an account of all monies that have been collected thus far, along with any expenditures that have been given out. I am prepared to disclose all information with any parties that are interested. In addition, I believe it is a great idea to have this information posted on our website. Parents should be kept informed.
Moving forward, in the spirit of Ujima---Collective Work and Responsibility, as a school, we must continue to remember to 'keep the children in the center'. They deserve the best from each and every one of us, at all times. Let's use our resources in a collective way to make Harambee the great institution is it destined to be.
